A football player dies after a big fight broke out over the referee’s decision

On July 10, Oxnard Police responded to reports of a major brawl between two soccer teams on a high school soccer field. Oxnard Police said in a statement that authorities found Michael Sanchez unresponsive and not breathing.

Oxnard Police said: “The fight occurred when both teams disagreed with the referee’s decision.” Sanchez was playing on the field when the fight broke out. “During the fight, Sanchez was assaulted by several attackers,” police said.

“My family is sad and still in disbelief, as we predicted a bright future for him,” Sanchez’s family posted on a verified page on GoFundMe.
Sanchez was taken by ambulance that day to Ventura County Medical Center and listed in critical condition. The outpatient clinic said he died on Monday of his injuries. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to determine the cause of his death.

Oxnard Police have made one arrest for assault, but are asking for public assistance in finding additional witnesses and video of the incident. The Outpatient Clinic (OPD) has created a website to submit videos anonymously.
