Affordable Communication Software | Federal Communications Commission

The Affordable Connection Program is the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) benefits program that helps ensure families can afford the broadband they need for work, school, health care, and more.

The feature provides up to $30 per month on internet for eligible families and up to $75 per month for families in eligible tribal lands. Eligible families can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 for the purchase of a laptop, desktop or tablet from participating providers if they contribute more than $10 and less than $50 in the purchase price.

The affordable calling program is limited to one monthly service discount and one device discount per household.

Who qualifies for the Affordable Communication Program?

A family is eligible for the Affordable Connection Program if the family’s income is at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines, or if at least one family member meets One From the criteria below:

  • Received a Federal Pell Scholarship during the current award year;
  • Meets the eligibility criteria for the current Low Income Internet Program of a participating provider;
  • Participate in one of these assistance programs:
    • The National School Lunch Program or School Breakfast Program, including through the USDA Community Eligibility Provision;
    • Explode, Explode
    • Medicaid
    • Federal Public Housing Assistance
    • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
    • WIC
    • Veterans’ pension or inheritance benefits
    • or lifeblood.
  • Participate in one of these assistance programs and live in eligible tribal territories:
    • Office of Indian Affairs General Assistance
    • Tribal TANF
    • Food distribution program for Indian reservations
    • Tribal Head Start (based on income)

Two steps to register

  1. Go to AffordableConnectivity.gov to apply or print an application by mail.
  2. Contact your preferred participating provider to select a plan and apply the discount to your bill.

Some providers may have an alternative application that they will require you to complete.

How does ACP protect consumers?

FCC rules protect recipients of the Affordable Communication Program by:

  • enabling consumers to choose the service plan that best meets their needs (including a plan that may already exist);
  • ensuring consumers have access to subsidized broadband services regardless of their credit status;
  • prevent service providers from excluding consumers with outstanding balances or past debts from enrolling in the program;
  • prevent consumers from being forced to follow more expensive or lower quality plans in order to obtain ACP;
  • Ensure that consumers are not liable for early termination fees;
  • minimizing the possibility of billing shock or other financial damage;
  • allow ACP recipients to switch between service providers or broadband service offerings; And the
  • Providing a dedicated FCC process for ACP complaints.
