ATP Kitzbuhel Day 2 Predictions Including Shevchenko vs Thiem

The clay court swing after Wimbledon is entering its third and final week. It’s been a time of the ATP season when the best players usually recharge their batteries, but that doesn’t mean tennis isn’t fun. The action is now in Kitzbuhel, Austria, and crowds are expected to be strong in support of fellow Austrian Dominic Thiem. As always, at LWOT, we forecast and predict the five scheduled matches for you.

Predictions ATP Kitzbuhel Day 2

Nicolas Jarry vs. Pedro Martinez

Face to face – First meeting

Both players come into this match following a quarter-final last week at the Swiss Open. Nicolas Jarry’s career was a little more impressive since he had to pass the qualifications. Pedro Martinez had a decent year by his standards winning his first career title at the Chile Open and the Spaniard will also be looking forward to making the most of this week. Expect Jarry to be competitive, but Martinez looks slightly stronger on this surface.
Prediction: Martinez in 3

Yannick Hanfmann versus Gerald Melzer

Head to head – Hanfmann 1-0 Melzer

Jurgen Melzer’s younger brother, Gerald Melzer is relatively unknown to tennis fans compared to his big brother, but perhaps a first main draw appearance this year will lead to more spotlight. The Austrian can rely on home support and his first-round opponent Yannick Hanfmann is not in good shape either. That being said, the German is still a very tricky opponent in his day, especially at this level on clay and while the Austrian won’t give up until the last point, Hanfmann will have the game on his racquet for the most part.
Prediction: Hanfmann in 3

Richard Gasquet versus Sebastien Ofner

Face to face – First meeting

Sebastian Ofner is one of many Austrian players in action and he is playing only his second main draw match this year on the ATP Tour. Relatively inexperienced, he faces one of the most experienced players on the circuit in the person of Richard Gasquet. The Frenchman is always a pleasure to watch on the tennis court and his talent on the pitch is matched by very few. Expect Ofner to do home support for a while, but Gasquet should earn that with his experience.
Prediction: Gasquet in 2

Pablo Andujar vs. Lorenzo Sonego

Head to head – Andujar 1-1 Sonego

The two players fought each other once in relatively easy fashion, with the previous two encounters ending in straight sets. Pablo Andujar is a seasoned veteran of the game and although he hasn’t had a particularly good year so far, the Spaniard is still very powerful on the clay courts. Lorenzo Sonego hasn’t managed to win a single match after Wimbledon in his two previous tournaments and in terms of form, the Italian doesn’t seem very confident. Expect a fight with several changes of momentum and the Spaniard relying on his experience and know-how on the pitch to claim victory.
Prediction: Andujar in 3

Alexander Shevchenko vs Dominic Thiem

Face to face – First meeting

All eyes are on Dominic Thiem again this week as the 2020 US Open champion continues to seek his peak form. A quarter-final and a semi-final in his two previous tournaments have instilled a certain confidence in the Austrian that he would very much like to develop further this week. His first-round opponent is Alexander Shevchenko who did well to qualify and play his first singles match of the year and of his career. Thiem may be struggling at this stage of his career but not enough to lose this game.
Prediction: Thiem in 2
