Lakers sign Javante McCoy and Fabian White Jr. to offer 10 contracts

The Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday announced they have signed Summer League superstars Javante McCoy and Fabian White Jr. to an offer of 10 contracts.

McCoy and White originally signed with the Lakers as free agents after they went without drafting in 2022.

McCoy appeared in five games for the Lakers in the NBA2K23 Summer League in Las Vegas, averaging 10.2 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in 20.4 minutes per game. He was a 2021-22 All-Patriot First Team pick and averaged 13.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists in his career at Boston University.

In three games with the Lakers in the Las Vegas Summer League, White averaged 2.3 points and 2.7 rebounds in 10.1 minutes. He played five seasons in Houston, averaging 8.3 points and 4.7 rebounds, and was named to the 2021-22 All-ACC First Team.

The Lakers have the ability to hand out five 10 bid contracts, invite players to a training camp on non-guaranteed contracts and then have the ability to keep them in the G League to play for the South Bay Lakers if they don’t make a parent. The club is outside the camp.

McCoy and White both showed traits during training camp that clearly impressed the Lakers and he will likely now have a full season to impress the front office in hopes of securing a spot on the roster.

Kristi is confident the 3-point shooting will come

Max Christie was one of McCoy and White’s teammates during the summer league, which was the Lakers’ only selection in 2022 in the second round of Michigan State.

While Christie struggled to take the ball off three over the summer, he recently expressed confidence that his shot would come. At just 19 years old, Christie will likely spend the majority of the 2022-23 season in the J-League alongside McCoy and White to continue working on his game.
