Miami Heat refused to allow Nikola Jovic to play for Serbia in the 2022 European Basketball Championship

Miami Heat rookie Nikola Jovic has been denied the opportunity to represent Serbia at the 2022 European Basketball Championship.

“For [Aleksej] Pokusevski and Jovic, we did not get permission from their teams,” the first national team mukhtar revealed. “Teams want the players to work there and prepare for the new season.”

Although it would likely come as a blow to Jovic, it couldn’t have come as a huge surprise. After all, the Heat spent their 27th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft on the 19-year-old.

The Heat definitely wants to spend as much time as possible with the youngster they develop into their system before the start of the 2022-23 regular season.

If Jovic can adapt to the NBA’s style of play quickly, he could become a dangerous force for the Heat. At 6 feet 10, he definitely has the size needed to succeed. Furthermore, his statistical output has been impressive thus far throughout his basketball journey.

So far, the Heat has had a fairly quiet hiatus. Although they were involved in a lot of rumors, nothing big came of it. There’s still plenty of time to change that, but the Heat certainly seem to be very careful with their decisions.

Hopefully, Jovic can help make a huge impact in the junior season and help the team once again compete as one of the most elite teams in the Eastern Conference.
