Peacocks monopolize the Premier League opening weekend schedule

Premier League Opening Weekend

Fans of Premier League clubs looking forward to the opening weekend of the 2022/23 season may be in for a surprise. Of the 10 matches scheduled for August 5-7, only two are on TV. None of these games are shown on over-the-air television. If you haven’t got a Peacock Premium subscription yet, now is the time to take that step unless you want to miss out.

Due to NBC’s extensive coverage of the 2022 Women’s Golf Open, there are only two games on the USA Network. The timing of the golf tournament is unfortunate. That’s because football’s opening weekend, one week earlier than usual due to the World Cup, is the first for NBCUniversal in a new six-year television rights deal with the Premier League. The excitement levels of the new football season are at an all-time high. Fortunately, the golf tournament did not last long. Normal television service should resume in the second week.

World Soccer Talk has reached out to NBC Sports for comment. “As in years past, the match schedule varies by week across platforms, including Peacock, which features extensive coverage of live games, studio shows, full match replays and more,” an NBC Sports spokesperson explained.

The loss of television is the peacock’s gain

With NBCSN shutting down last year, NBC Sports has fewer options for broadcasting games on TV. However, Peacock TV subscribers should be pleased with the Premier League schedule.

Some of the matches featured exclusively on Peacock include:

1) Fulham vs Liverpool
2) West Ham vs Manchester City
3) Tottenham vs Southampton, and
4) Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, among other matches.

The two matches are broadcast on USA Network, Crystal Palace vs Arsenal and Everton vs Chelsea.

Talent appeared in the Premier League opening weekend

As it enters its 10th year of broadcasting the Premier League, NBC Sports has made two changes to its talent lineup. Danny Higginbotham has been appointed to a permanent role as a studio analyst alongside Tim Howard, Robbie Earle, and Robbie Mustoe. Meanwhile, Arlo White’s contract was not renewed, with performer Peter Drury taking over instead.

Drury, Lee Dixon and Graeme Lou Sau call three games together over the opening weekend. Those matches are Palace vs Arsenal, Everton vs Chelsea, West Ham vs Manchester City.

Meanwhile, presenter Rebecca Lowe has renewed her contract with NBC Sports.

This season, Peacock (available for $4.99 per month) will once again be streaming all of the NBC-streamed games live. In addition, Peacock will present studio shows, full match replays and the Premier League TV channel. All match days and windows exclusively on Peacock will include NBC Sports studio coverage of the Premier League.
