Two teams must sign veteran goalkeepers for free agency

Eric Bledsoe remains available on the NBA free agency for 2022. The 32-year-old was a key player in the rotation with the Los Angeles Clippers last season before injuring his left Achilles tendon, was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers and missed the rest of the season.

A lot of the difference makes sense for Bledsoe. The Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks could all use another veteran option off the bench. On those teams, though, Bledsoe was competing with a lot of other players for spare minutes.

Bledsoe is best suited for teams seeking the playoffs. His career is in its final stages, so he should spend the rest of his days trying to win his first championship. To prove he has muscle for a reason, he should look for a prominent bench role on the supplement team.

At 25.2 minutes per game last season, Bledsoe averaged 9.9 points, 4.2 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.3 steals while shooting at 42.1% from field and 31.3% from depth. To make the most of him and the squad in the best possible way, his best bet would be a team with a strong sixth man and/or a group of scorers off the bench.

A veteran point guard can still contribute at a decent level but will need the right support team to make him a really valuable spinning bit on the bottom line. Here are the two teams that should sign Eric Bledsoe in free agency.

2. Charlotte Hornets

The Hornets need a backup guard and some help in defence. Bledsoe is the perfect free agent that is still out there to fulfill each of these needs.

As a backing for LaMelo ball, Bledsoe just had to be a strong defensive presence. After the Hornets relied on Isaiah Thomas for further humiliation off the bench last season, they should consider leaning in a different direction for their reserves.

Bledsoe will have Kelly Uber Jr. and possibly James Bucknight to count on when facing the bench units. He had to focus on defense and playmaking while playing for a few minutes. Even in the spot minutes by the ball when Hormuz needs more defense, Bledsoe can work.

Charlotte will always run across the ball but still needs to find someone who can be relied upon to play behind him. Bledsoe has the talent to be that, at least for next season.

1. Golden State Warriors

Although other teams may have bigger roles for Bledsoe, the Warriors are best suited for the veteran goalkeeper. They have a place in their rotation that has a good chance of claiming and would be one of the best teams to chase the ring.

Golden State needs another bench guard after leaving Gary Payton II on free agency. Bledsoe would satisfy their need for a defensive guard, although he probably wouldn’t be as influential as Payton.

The Warriors will easily be able to cover up Bledsoe’s offensive deficiencies because they have Jordan Paul, whose electric scoring made him a dangerous goalscorer off the bench last season. They also have Donte DiVincenzo to help with surrounding defense.

Golden State can use more bench pieces as they look to repeat them as champions. Bledsoe can become a strong defensive choice for Dubs’ strong defense.
