UNC Basketball’s Caleb Love contacts former recruit JJ Jackson

CHAPEL HILL – While the saga surrounding GG Jackson’s high-profile cancellation from basketball in North Carolina made Tar Heels fans recede with varying degrees of disappointment, even anger, Caleb Love has remained a constant source of support for the five-star inductee.

The UNC guard said he reached out with a phone call and a chat, figuring it was the kind of thing an older brother should be doing, when word started spreading that Jackson might step back from his commitment to North Carolina.

“I heard the rumors before this happened and called him and we talked a little bit,” Love said last week, ahead of a training session at the Smith Center. “I told him no matter what, we’ll be fine no matter. He’s a kid. He makes the best decision for him and his family, so I can’t be angry about that.”

The 6-foot-9 forward from Columbia, South Carolina, has been ranked the No. 2 national prospect of the year in the high school class of 2023.
