Why Klopp wants Mane’s move to be a ‘model’ for future transfers – Liverpool FC

Liverpool lost Sadio Mane, one of the most successful players in their recent history, to Bayern Munich earlier this summer, but Jurgen Klopp says he is “good at the situation”.

After six brilliant years at Anfield, the Senegalese opted for a new challenge in the Bundesliga, after winning all the major titles with the Reds.

Liverpool insisted they line up a replacement before penalizing his departure, with Darwin Nunez recruiting from Benfica, in a deal that could end up worth £85m.

Despite being fully aware of Mane’s loss on the pitch, Klopp revealed the reason for his departure with his blessing.

The Liverpool chief praised the way the deal was sealed and said the transfer should be an “example” of how negotiations could take place in the future.

It is also believed that Mane, 30, has the potential to continue his career into his late thirties, and this is the “totally crazy” physical shape he lives in.

“Sadio told me, the agent told me he was looking for a new challenge,” Klopp explained. Viaplay Football.

“If it happens early enough, as it did in this case, if it happens the right way, that the player is working and the new club they want to go to is ready for negotiations, then it should be as it was now.

“And then you say ‘thank you’ with the greatest respect ever. I’ve never had more respect for Sadio, what a player.

“I wish him the best. He will play for ages, up to 38 or 39 with his body – it’s so crazy.”

Speculation began that Mane was looking for a new challenge at the end of the previous season, and it quickly became clear that Bayern Munich was his preferred destination.

After weeks of negotiations, the deal was finalized a month ago, and it has now emerged that Mane told Liverpool of his plans going forward last summer.

Friendly negotiations have apparently left Klopp satisfied, with the Liverpool boss keen to seal more deals in a similar fashion in the future.

“Bayern got a really good player, but we’ve had him for six years, so that’s good and it all showed that this type of transfer can work like that too.”

“I want to use it in the future as an example for everything else – it’s perfectly normal that sometimes changes are needed in relationships.

“In this case Sadio wanted it and we reacted and now we are both trying to take advantage of it. I’m really fine in this situation, even when we miss him from a sporting point of view and as a person, I’m fine because that’s life.”
